According to a study published in Forbes, women are represented in 33% of FinTech companies but only occupy 12% of management roles, and only 9% are founders/co-founders.
The study found that this is a significant underrepresentation compared to the financial services sector and the technology sector itself. There is some good news however, between 2015 and 2016, women in management at the big banks increased by 12% in France.
The study found that the causes of women being under represented in FinTech companies include bias, less women studying STEM in schools, the cultural issue of society not welcoming women into finance, banking and the technology sector. The report also noted that women auto-censor themselves from selecting careers that involve entrepreneurship.
